I found this on the net about a year ago. I don't honestly understand where some of the factors come from, but it is a pretty straightforward spreadsheet to use: just plug in the numbers at the bottom. The table at the top will tell how much horsepower is required to move the vessel at the required speed in the indicated conditions (calm seas, heavy weather, charging loads, etc.)
