The original design for the Mariner Centaur 34 was a 15/16ths sloop rig.
There are two cabin layouts. The first is a bit more "traditional" with the
head between the salon and the forward cabin. The second plan has head just
starboard of the companionway and the galley "unfolded" along the port side.
There's more info about the design, by the architect,
George Stadel
To our knowledge, only four (maybe three) Mariner Centaur 34's were
ever built. This, we were told, was
because of a trademark dispute: Mariner was a partnership of several
builders under the same name. The partnership dissolved and as part of the
resulting lawsuit, the yard stopped building them under the MC 34 name.
Some more were sold as Stadel 34's on the East coast, but the recession
hit and demand dwindled so no more were produced. I heard that Stadel
didn't get any royalties for his design.

It turns out that the production boat did not sail to
weather well. This may be due to some unauthorized modifications by the
builder -- specifically moving the shrouds outboard. The sheeting angle
for the headsail was about 11° The first owner had a bowsprit
installed, and the rig converted to a cutter rig. This change reduced the
sheeting angle and moved the center of effort forward three feet,
enough to kick the weather helm problem. The cutter rig is also a much
more flexible sailplan for cruising.
